SORELLA MALDESTRA - Maltempo

Come sempre.

SORELLA MALDESTRA – Maltempo

Banksville Records presents Maltempo, the long-awaited return of Sorella Maldestra, the legendary punk-rock band that, between the late ’70s and early ’80s, strongly shaped the Italian underground scene together with, among others, Skiantos, Windopen, Joe Squillo, Camerini and Gaznevada—during the era of the Sex Pistols and Bologna caput mundi. Federico Guglielmi listed them among the ten essential Italian punk bands (PUNK, Federico Guglielmi, Giunti Editore, 2007).
The vinyl edition of their debut album (Cadavere), released by the historic Harpo’s Bazar label, is today a collector’s item.

Now, almost 30 years after Cadavere, Sorella Maldestra return to the studio to record a completely new album—fresh ideas, renewed enthusiasm—and with their original line-up, except for bassist Vittorio Ranghino and drummer Paolo Baltaro, who also takes on the role of producer.
The result is Maltempo, a record that in no way denies the past; on the contrary, it enhances its qualities through the experience accumulated by the musicians who, in the years of “vacation” from Sorella Maldestra, never stopped making music through other projects.

Maltempo is an uncomfortable album. It is not a reunion, nor is it a self-celebratory homage to old punk attitudes. Maltempo consists of 12 tracks written almost entirely for the occasion and reflects the band’s frame of mind toward decidedly contemporary themes, tackled without reinventing stylistic languages—because the ideas, motivations, personal realities, and everyday matters, both serious and playful, are already new. And that is enough.

The sound and approach of Sorella Maldestra have therefore remained intact, refreshed by modern valve equipment and enhanced by new analog-digital recording techniques, with crushing guitars and lyrics you’ll either love madly or hate in dismay, with no middle ground. As always.
